4 Things You Can Do to Celebrate Christ This Christmas

When it comes to how Americans see and celebrate Christmas, times are changing.  A recent Pew Study reported that only 46% of Americans celebrate Christmas as a sacred holiday.  That means that 54% of Americans see Christmas as only a secular celebration.   Those who celebrate the sacred at Christmas are now in the minority in our country.

Before we are too quick to judge on this, I have a question.   How do you celebrate Christmas - secular or sacred?  Let's press a little deeper.  You may believe that Christmas is about Christ, but how do you celebrate in a way that shows that?  You may know that Jesus is the reason for the season, but how does this truth affect how you celebrate Christmas with family and friends?

Consider these 4 things that you can do to celebrate Christ this Christmas:

  1. Worship Him at home and with the church.  Gather your family together to worship Jesus on Christmas Eve.  This is isn't just a tradition.  It's a natural part of a believer's life.  Mark the day when we celebrate the birth of Jesus.  Want to take your family's worship to the next level?  Consider taking communion together as a family
  2. Read the Christmas story aloud from Matthew and Luke to remember the birth of Jesus.
  3. Serve others this Christmas.  Serving others is a great way to reinforce that God gave at Christmas and so can we.
  4. Pray for others as a part of Christmas meals.  The hope of Christmas is peace and joy.  Pray that others will know the peace and joy that only Jesus brings.
