I love my wife. Kind of a strange opening for a few thoughts on tradition, but its true. I love Kristi. One of the reasons is that she brings meaningful traditions into our family's day-to-day lives. One of those traditions centers around Christmas. It's our annual Advent Calendar. A traditional Advent Calender in my exprience can be a little rigid and not always kid friendly, but what Kristi has created for us is anything but rigid and is completely kid friendly. Here is how it works: everynight, we read a passage of the Bible together and talk about it. Last night, we talked about the census and how God could use even the government to accomplish his purposes. He used the census to get Joseph, Mary, and the baby Jesus to Bethlehem so that OT prophesy could be fulfilled. What a great conversation! I can only imagine how the conversations will progress over the years. Nick already lead us into a pretty amazing conversation about the Trinity a couple of nights ago. Through the rest of the month, we will continue to read and discuss Scripture together. This will help us not only spend some amazing quality time as a family, but it will help us all remember why we celebrate Christmas.
